Job Title: Construction Inspector
Position Type: Full time, Non-Exempt
Reports to: Development Project Manager/Inspection Supervisor
Work Schedule: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday with overtime as needed.
Must be able to respond to emergencies.

Summary/objective
To monitor the construction work performed by contractors to ensure compliance with applicable plans and water district specifications.
To inspect and report upon water district infrastructure such as tanks, pump stations, lift stations, and gravity sewer.

• Perform inspection of construction work by the water district's contractors and contractors employed under Warter Line Extension Agreements.
Construction work inspection includes, but may not be limited to, water lines, sewer lines, and manholes, sewage lift stations, water storage tanks, and above and below ground water pumping stations.
• Keep accurate, detailed records of daily progress and pay items for all construction projects assigned.
• Take GPS shots for input into GIS system and assist other personnel in surveying activities including calculations in the office on a personal computer.
• Maintain familiarity with water district standard construction details and specifications for both water and sewer systems.
• Collect bacteriological samples for new construction and other locations as required.
• Flush water system blowoffs and fire hydrants as assigned.
• Perform fire hydrant maintenance and flow tests as assigned.
• Perform regularly scheduled inspections of water district infrastructure such as water storage tanks and the sewer system.
• Assist the water district's construction personnel with receiving, loading, and unloading materials.
• Assume responsibility for maintenance of tools and work equipment assigned to the department.
• Keep familiar with Environmental Protection Agency “Right-to-Know” regulations as they pertain to chemical substance, etc.

• Work according to safety rules and polices adopted by Warren County Water District, is responsible for own safety, and reports all accidents to supervisor.
• Comply with traffic laws, regulations, and safe practices while operating any company vehicle.
• Keep general manager advised of any informalities internal or external along with any overall personnel and customer problems or other needs within the organization.
• Work with other water district departments.
• Other duties as assigned.
Competencies
• Must have knowledge and understanding of water district standard construction details and specifications.
• Must have knowledge of the water district's policies related to construction and providing service to customers.
• Must be familiar with service area and have a working knowledge of the water district's mapping system.
• Knowledge of standard spreadsheet and word processing programs desirable.
• Knowledge of surveying calculations required.
• Must be able to plan daily work assignments and handle multiple projects that may be assigned at once.
• Must be able to maintain neat and accurate records.
• Must be able to work individually as well as with others.
• Must be able to read and interpret construction plans.
• Must have ability to prepare pencil sketches of facilities constructed, neatly and accurately as required.
• Must have basic arithmetic skills.

Work environment
• Must be able to work outside in all types of weather.
Physical demands
Heavy lifting up to fifty pounds may be required.
Must be physically able to climb in sewer manholes, lamp sewers, and underground lift stations, as well as maneuver in and out of ditches, climb elevated tanks, and traverse rough terrain.
Travel required
Some travel in and around the system will be required.
Education and experience
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Must have two years' experience related to construction of water and sewer system facilities.
• Experience in Civil Engineering, surveying, or drafting desirable.
Additional eligibility requirements
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
• Must be willing to obtain First Aid/CPR certification upon employment.
