Description: JOB SUMMARY A sleep technologist works under the general supervision of the medical to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and out of center sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education.
A sleep technologist is able to perform the duties defined for a sleep technician and is able to provide oversight of other sleep center staff.
The sleep technologist is credentialed in sleep technology and/or Respiratory Care.
Requirements: JOB REQUIREMENTS Minimum Education Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (CRT or RRT).
Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT).
Minimum Work Experience Five years of experience as a sleep technologist Experience as a sleep lab coordinator is preferred FUNCTIONAL DEMANDS Physical Requirements Sitting - 16-31% Walking - 1-15% Standing - 1-15% Bending/Squatting - 1-15% Climbing/Kneeling - 1-15% Twisting - 1-15% OSHA Category Minimal potential for direct exposures.
Visual and Hearing Requirements Must be able to see with corrective eyewear.
Low level light visual acuity.
Must be able to hear clearly with assistance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Demonstrates knowledge of sleep disorders and treatment options.
Demonstrates knowledge of Sleep Lab Equipment, its function and purpose.
Develops a patient questionnaire for the assessment of sleep disorders.
Explains procedures to patients prior to admission for a polysomnogram.
Trains Technicians to perform set-up and monitoring according to standards.
Demonstrates ability to score a polysomnogram according to established guidelines and sends to physician for interpretation.
Develops guidelines for the quick response to changes in physiologic tracings that indicate a decline in patient condition that constitutes a medical emergency.
Demonstrates knowledge of protocols for the use of pneumatic splinting treatment.
Demonstrates knowledge of protocols for the use of oxygen therapy.
Develops a system of patient care that optimizes patient safety and comfort.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the techniques and modalities required for patients of varying apes (pediatric through geriatric).
Demonstrates knowledge of studies used to diagnose sleep disorders other than apnea during sleep.
Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patient needs are met.
Consults with other departments to coordinate patient care.
Communicates with physician office staff to maintain continuum of care.
Demonstrates flexibility and organization to function under stressful situations.
Develops and maintains applicable policies and procedures.
Demonstrates current knowledge through continuing education, seminars, review of professional journal and membership in profession societies.
Is a resource person for staff and physicians Develops schedules for day and night staff.
Communicates clearly and concisely with administrative and medical staff.
Demonstrates accurate knowledge of sleep disorders and their treatment.
Participates in the design of the Sleep Center.
Participates in the selection of equipment for data acquisition.
Develops marketing material.
Develops a patient follow-up program.
Develops a billing system.
Develops a system for scheduling studies.
Rounds to physician offices to educate staff and doctors.
